Etymology

'The priests' farmstead', v. prēost , tūn , and cf. Preston Patrick (i, 62supra ). The affix Richard is the name of one of a succession of feudal owners called Richard de Preston (1190–1220 Cockers1002–3, 1332SR , 1341 Ipm, 1376 Kend i, 147, 1501 CockersRent iii, 1299).
