Etymology
Holborn Hill, 1859OS , Hauborchan c. 1216Lowth (p), Houburganes 1270 ib, Ouburchanes , Ou 'houburchanes 1295 ib. 'Hill cairn', v haugr 'hill, mound', burgæsn 'cairn, heap of stones'. This is the site of an ancient settlement at grid 83–682122, described in RCHM 18. Cf. Griseburn (supra ).
