Etymology

Redford appears in pers. names Rydeforde , Rideforde in 1296, 1327 and 1332 (SR). This may be a compound of OE  rīed , v. infra 378s. n. Inchreed, and ford, 'ford by the clearing.'On formal and on topographical grounds OE  hreod, 'reed,' is unlikely.
