Early-attested site in the Parish of Westbourne

Etymology

There was anciently a chapel here attached to the manor of Prinsted, which was in some way connected with and used by the Hermits of the Causeway (SAC 22, 98). The chapel was built by Simon Cotes of Westbourne, 'Ermyt,' according to his will of 1527 (Mee, Bourne in the Past 18).
