Etymology

Laybrook Fm is Leybrok , Leybroc (1268 Ipm), Laybroke (1510 SRS 19, 65). This is a compound of broc and læge , 'fallow, unploughed land,' or leah , hence 'unploughed water-meadow 'or meadow by the clearing.' Cf. Lawbrook (Sr), Leybroke (1511 LP).
