Etymology

Homestreet Fm is Holmestreke in 1485 (Ct ). The first element is the common ME  holm ,'holly,' the second, as it dates from the 15th cent., may be a late form of OE  strica , 'mark, stroke,' used of a strip of land, or as Professor Ekwall suggests, it may represent an unrecorded OE  strēac , identical with EFris  strok , Du  strook , 'stripe.' streak is fairly common in Sussex field- names in TA , e.g. Great Streakes in Hellingly, The Streakes in Salehurst, cf. also Strakeland , Strecelond as field-names (1202).
