Etymology

This, as suggested by Zachrisson (Vising Mélanges 192), is from OE  Gefingatūn , 'farm of the people of Ge (o )fa ,' Ge (o )fa being a pet-form of such an OE  pers. name as Gefmund or the Gifric of Ersham infra 436.
