Polegate
Early-attested site in the Parish of Hailsham
Etymology
Polegate is Powlegate Corner 1563, Poolgate 1579 Hailsham, 1724 B. This is a modern settlement which has grown up since the opening of the railway. The name may derive from some gate by a pool.
