Etymology

Garratt Lane and Green preserve the name of a former tenement, referred to as le Garret (t )1538 Merton, 1548LRMB , Ye Garret 1580 SAC xviii, Garrat greene 1609LRMB . This is probably a late name from OFr  garite , 'watch house, watch tower.' Cf. Garrett Hall (PN La 35).
