Allfarthing Lane (6″) preserves the name of the manor of Elverding c. 1230AddCh (p), Alferthyng 1268, 1371, 1379, 1413WAM , Halverthyng 1334 Ch, Alverthyngg 1365WAM , Alferdyng 1540 LP, Halfefarthing 1544 LP, All fardinge 1597 SAC xviii, Allfardthing , Allfardtheng , Allfarding 1644 SAC xxxvii. 'Half a feorðung or fourth part.' The exact significance of 'the fourth part' is uncertain.
