Etymology

Identical with Takeley PN Ess 535: the meaning may be '*Tæcca 's wood or clearing,' second element (a)h. Ekwall (DEPN) suggests that the group of names he discusses under Tackley have an earlier form of teg , tag , 'a young sheep,' as first element. Tackewell ' (v. w(i)elle) is mentioned 1196 FF as a place in Tackley.
