Etymology

v. Wootton infra 293. It is stated in DB that three hundreds belong to the royal manor of Optone , and this statement can only be explained by assuming that Optone is a very poor form of the name of Wootton: there is no Upton within reach, and the “three hundreds of Wootton” are mentioned 1175 and 1182 P.
