Etymology

Pound Hill is Pauenhull '1139 (c. 1450) Godstow, Pounhyll c. 1250 (c. 1450) Godstow, Pound Hill c. 1840TA . The first element could be pāwa , 'peacock,' perhaps used as a nickname. Icelandic , pái is so used. Cf. Poundon PN Bk 56.
