Callow Barn takes name from le Callowe 1606–7Survey . Stonesfield Riding (6″) is Stonesfield or Callow Riding 1804EnclA , v. ryding . callow , 'bare,' is first recorded of land in 1677 in Plot's Natural History of Oxfordshire 243, but occurs much earlier in place- names, v. DEPN s.n. Callow.
