Etymology

Flexney Fm (6″) is Flexneye 1278–9 RH. The first element looks like an OE  *fleaxen from fleax, 'flax': cf. *cærsen in Cassington (252) and *gærsen in Garsington (174). flaxen is first recorded in 1521. Second element (ī)eg, 'well-watered land,' or possibly (ge)hæg, 'enclosure.'
