Etymology

'*Hroppa 's ford': -p - has been assimilated to -f -. Roppan broces , evidently the present Haseley Brook, is also mentioned in the 1002 charter, and in BCS 216 (late 10th) (v. 87). Ekwall (DEPN) suggests this personal name as a short form of names like *Hrōþbeorht .
