Etymology

Langley Hall takes name from Langenhull 1212 Cl (p), Langehulle c. 1225 (c. 1280) S, 1265 FF, Langehull 1246 Ch (p), Langehull ' (bis) 1278–9 RH (p), Langenhulle 1285Ass (p), 1383 BC (p). The name Langely Hall appears 1692 (early 18th) ParColl. Originally 'long hill': the change to Langley may have been facilitated by the fact that Geoffrey of Langley (in Wa) held land in Chalgrove.
