Etymology

Perhaps 'Fugol's place, place of assembly' from the OE  pers.n. Fugol and stōw, cf. Fulstone PN YW 2239, for the same pers.n. However, EPN 2, 161 points out that compounds of stōw with a pers.n. are rare and when they do occur they are usually hundred-names. Fulstow is not a wapentake-name. So, it is probably better to take the first el. as being OE  fugol 'a bird' in a general sense, hence 'the place where birds abound'.

The associations of the families Arsic and Bec with Fulstow are discussed in detail by Dorothy M. Williamson, “Some notes on the Medieval Manors of Fulstow”, LAAS iv, 1–56.
