Etymology

The second element is burna, 'stream.' The first is difficult.Near by is Ponsfall Fm (6″) but unluckily we have no early forms for it. Dr Ritter suggests the possibility of a personal name Pumel , a derivative of the OLowGer  name Pumi found in Traditiones Corbeienses , ed. Wigand (1843).
