Etymology

Ludwick Hall is Ludewich 1176 P (p), Ludewic 1210–12 RBE (p), 1220 Pat, Ludewyk 1248Ass (p), Lodewik 1264–80 AD iii, Lodewyk 1294SR (p), 1302 Ch, 1346 FA (p), Ludewyke juxta Hatfelde 1294FF , Ludwicke al. Ludwicke Hall al. Ludwickehide 1639Deeds Enrolled , Luddick Hide 1676 Sess. This is probably 'Luda 's (dairy) farm,' v. wic . Cf. Lutton (PN Nth 204). The OE  hlūd , 'loud,' used as a stream-name is not very likely here, as there is only a tiny stream near by. See also hid infra 245.
