Etymology

Arland (lost), Ertlond 1225 ClR, hermitorium de Arland 1232 Lib, 1241 Cl, Ar (d )land 1258 Ch, Ar (d )lond 1287 Ipm, Arlands Grove , St Whites or Arlands field 1591Deed (Miss E. Scroggs). Probably 'arable land' or 'land with a dwelling', v. erð , eard , land . Its association with St Whites (St White's Fm 223infra ) places it just south of Cinderford (grid 143–660130).
