Etymology

Abbots Wood, boscum monachorum de Flexleye 1282For , (the ) Abbotts wood (s )1641, 1645Comm , Abbotte wood 1645 ib. A wood belonging to the Abbot of Flaxley and given to the abbey by Henry III in place of their right to take two oaks anywhere in the Forest for their forge; its bounds are also referred to in 1258 Ch ii, 11. v. abbat , wudu .
