Etymology

Coombe Bottom (SY 968785), on þanne cumb , þonne an lang cumbe 948 (15) ShaftR (S 534 (1)), la Combe Ed 3Surv , Bottam c. 1825 Map, cf. E , Green , Heathy Coombe , Middle Coombe , W Coombe , Coombe Md 1844TA , v. cumb 'valley', botm . The bdy point in the OE charter cited is probably identical with on struthgeardes cum 955 (14) ShaftR (S 573), 'to Strūtheard's valley', cf. the nearby points onne strut heardes paþe , of þane paþe 948 (15) ib (S 534 (1)), on struthherdes wege , of þane wege 955 (14) ib (S 573), 'to, from Strūtheard's path, way', from an OE  pers.n. Strūtheard with cumb , pæð and weg ; for the pers.n., v. Street Ashton Wa 114, Tengstrand 309–10.
