Etymology

'Pren's farm', from tūn and the rare OE  pers.n. Præn , discussed in Redin 34, borne as a surname by Eadberht Præn , king of Kent 796–798, (ASC A). DEPN proposes this pers.n. for Prenton Ch, Prendwick Nb, and Princethorpe Wa, cf. NbDu 160, Wa 141–2.The DB and Chest forms record 'priest's farm', from prēost, but this is probably an error for a form *Prenes-tun in which the pers.n. appeared in the gen.sg.
