Etymology

'Farm by a river', from ēa and tūn , with hall , grēne 2 , and park .Eaton is beside R. Dee 121, and is separated from Allington in Denbighshire (NCPN 194) by Poulton and Pulford 153, 155infra .The family Streche owned land near Figdale infra , cf. Orm2 II383 n. 1. There was a ferry here, v. Eaton Boat infra . The extensive park of Eaton Hall extended as far as Chester and across the river into Buerton. It obliterated the hamlets of Eaton Green supra , Belgrave, Figdale infra and Buerton 79supra . Mr J. E. B. Gover observes that some street-names in the Westminster estate of the Grosvenors of Eaton are taken from places in the family's Ch estate, e.g. Aldford St., Belgrave Square, Chester Square, Eaton Square and Eccleston Square, cf. Mx 175–178.
