Etymology

'Thicket valley', v. þicce 1 , denu , dæl 1 . Initial F - displaces Th -, cf. Fregreue 147supra , and the form is influenced by ME  fyke , fike (OE  fīc ) 'a fig-tree', cf. fike NED. The site of the hamlet, near Eaton Stud infra , is discussed in Sheaf1 1, pp. 88, 101.
