Etymology

'Christian, or the Christians', enclosure or farm', v. cristen , tūn .v. Addenda. Christleton is in three parts, cf. Littleton and Rowton 113, 114infra . The church-hamlet was distinguished by the affixes Church - (v. cirice , kirkja ), Magna -, Great - (v. grēat , magna ) and Ham -, Hom (e )-. The latter prefix is from hām , cf. home in the adjectival sense 'home' to distinguish the 'home' part of the manor and parish, the main hamlet near the church, from the dependent hamlets of Littleton or Rowton.
