, 1822 Langd , Dransfeild 1598 SessnR; a family of Dranefeld ,Dra (u )nsfeld was known in the district from the twelfth to theseventeenth centuries (Dranefeld 12WB ix, 1, 1275 WCR, Dronesfeld 1307 ib, Dronsfeld 1315 ib, 1369 YD i, Dransfeld 1385 Brett, Dra (u )nsfeld 17 PRMrf ) , and it doubtless originated here ; the p.n. is ' drone'sopen land ' , v. drān ( as also in Dronfield Db 243 ) , feld ; OE  drān may be here used as a nickname .
