Brabant , Oxfordshire , London 1906 , p. 191 : “ In 1847 the ' National Land Company ' started by the Chartist leader , Feargus O'Connor , bought here a farm of 300 acres , divided it into allotments with cottages , and set eighty - one North country mechanics to live on them . The scheme was unsuccessful . ”
