The first el . is probably to be connected with Slenggesberg c.1200 Dane , Slengesberg Ed1 (Hy4)DuLaGCB , the first el . of which is an ON  byname *Slengr , on which v. SPNLY 255 , where the first of the two forms is quoted and Reaney s.n. Sling , the second el . is probably ON  berg ' a hill ' , perhaps ' a mound ' , hence a Scand . compound .
