Etymology

, the Skitter Road 1804ib , v. East Halton Skitter supra VICARAGE FM is Micklemeer Hill F .1824 O , Micklemoor Hill 1828 Bry , Micklemere hill 1842 White , Micklemare Hill 1670Cragg , Micklemore hill 1781Yarb ; as with Langmere Covert supra , the original second el . has been confused with mōr 1 ; the forms are also late and the earliest is in -mare . One possibility is that the name means ' the big pool ' , v. micel , mikill , mere 1 and though there is a pool near the farm it can hardly be described as ' big ' . An alternative is that the second el . may be (ge)mǣre ' a boundary, land on a boundary, etc ' in f. ns . ' thebalk of a ploughland ' , dial . meare ' a strip of grassland forming aboundary ' , a word which seems to occur frequently in north L with ME and ModE  spellings mare . The same development has been noted in C , v. PN C 338 s.v . The farm is situated on a hill about 40 ft . contour sloping sharply to the west , one of the highest points in the parish .
