Historical Forms

  • Foryste of Annurdale 1467×84 LTD

Etymology

appears to represent the Foryste of Annurdale 1467 × 84LTD . If this cartulary copy of the place - name is accurate , then probably ' Einarr's valley ' , v. dalr ; with the common ON  masc. pers.n.Einarr , which would be acceptable in this township with a Scandinavianized name . But the nn of the copy may be an original m as in the modern form , hence poss . rather ' valley frequented by buntings ' , with amer as the specific , v. forest , spinney .
