, 1841TA , Spellborough 1698M , probably ' speech hill ' , v. spell , beorg ; the latter is more likely than burh ' fort ' , as it refers to the highest local point of the Cotswold scarp where no evidence of old fortifications occurs ; the place is adjacent to Kiftsgate Court and the name therefore clearly refers to the meeting - place of Kiftsgate hundred .
