, 1811 OS , perhaps ' good shore ' , from gōd ( wk . obl . gōdan ) and ōra , or ' Gōda's shore ' from the OE  pers.n. Gōda ; however the name may be a late formation on the analogy of names such as Blacknor supra , cf. PortlandNore infra .
