Historical Forms

  • Churchill 1811 OS
  • Churchill Farm Ho 1839 TA

Etymology

, Churchill 1811 OS, Churchill Farm Ho 1839TA ; unfortunately there are no early spellings but there is no church here ( only a chapel marked 6 ″ ) and this could therefore possibly be an earlier name for Beacon Hill supra which rises just to the N of here , hence perhaps from PrWelsh or PrCorn *crǖg ' hill ' with explanatory OE  hyll as in ( Long ) Crichel par . 2 274 – 5 .
