Etymology

Finsbury was a prebendal manor of St Paul's which never became a parish. The present borough of Finsbury includes the parishes of St James and St John, Clerkenwell, St Luke, Old Street (separated from St Giles without Cripplegate in 1732), the extra parochial district of the Charterhouse, and the Liberty of Glasshouse Yard.
