Etymology

There are also names Diveling and Deueling in 1275, 1327 (SR) which are probably for d 'Eveling or d 'lveling . If we compare the forms for this name with those given for Whitlinge infra 246 it is clear that the final element is really OE  hlinc. This suits the site of Evelench, which is on a small hill. The first part is probably the OE  pers. name Eofa , hence 'Eofa's hill,' cf. Evesham infra 262.
