  • Wyke Abbetot 1275 SR

Etymology

The manor was granted in the 12th cent. to Osbert d'Abitot and is known therefore as Wyke Abitot (Wyke Abbetot 1275 SR).The manor, or part of it, is also named Goldenwick, v. supra 92 and Sapynswyke (14th VCH iii. 502), Wike Sapey (1420 Ipm) and Overwyke (14th VCHib.). The second derives from the Sapy family who held land here in the 14th cent. (VCH loc. cit .).
