Etymology

The presence of another Cutmill in Lindridge and of a Cutt Mill in Easington (O), with forms Cuttydmylle , Cuttydemyll (Merton College Deeds , 1420, 1450) shows that we must take the first element as a significant one. A 'cutted' mill may be one provided with a 'cut' or artificial channel carrying water to the wheel.
