Etymology

'Offa 's marshland,' v. mor . For the Uff - forms, cf. Offenham infra 266. In this case we must take the h to be inorganic. If it is original, then we have to do with a lost OE  pers. name Huffa , a regular hypocoristic form for Hūnfrið .
