Etymology

'Scæcca's wooded hill,' v hyrst . The pers. name Scæcca is not on independent record in OE  but is found in scæccan halh in Grimley (Wo), BCS 1139, and is cognate with OGer  Scacca (Förstemann PN 1303), ON  Skakki .
