Etymology

The first identification is not absolutely certain but is highly probable. If correct the first element is the pers. name Ealhrǣd .For the f development cf. the history of Offerton infra 139.Note also Zachrisson, AN Influence , 107 ff. Hence 'wic of Ealhræd.' There is also in WoC a pers. name Alkareswik , Alcchardewik (c. 1250) belonging to a man who had a fee in Worcester. He probably came from Alfrick.
