Clapcote is Clopcote 1196 Curet passim to 1535 VE, Cloppekote 1263For , c. 1350 GlastFeod, Clappecote ib., Clapcott 1589FF .The place is on a hill and the first element must be OE  *clop , 'hillock, hill, lump,' as suggested by Ekwall (Studies 136). The second element is cot(e).
