Etymology

Aughton [ɔ'tən] is Colyngborne Afton 1346Ass , Affeton 1469 Pat, Afton 1593, Aughton 1676FF . 'Æffe 's farm,' v. tun . This is no doubt the Æffe to whom Wulfgar left land at Collingbourne in 931 (BCS 678).
