Etymology

'Breið's well or spring', v. wella . The pers.n. is ON  Breiðr (gen. Breiz ), ODan  Breth , but this form may well have replaced an earlier OE  pers.n. Brægd , as Ekwall suggests; the latter pers.n. is not recorded but certainly occurs in Breadsall Db 539.
