Etymology

Foxcote is Fecota c. 1200 France, Foxcote 1285Ass , 1310, 1653FF , 1327 SR, 1370 AD iv, Foxcott al. Foscott 1679FF , Faxcoate 1725 ib. Probably 'fox earths,' though an alternative meaning might be 'cottages near which foxes were to be seen.' Cf. PN Wo xxxix.
