Etymology

Flatmoor Field is Flackemore 1221ElyA , 1310Ct , Flak (e )more 1331Ct , (feilde ) 1436SewersC , Flat (t )mo (o )re t. Hy 8Rental , 1570 Imb.The first element is probably the word found in the phrases fodit flackys 1376Ct and flackes and semys super dictum fossatum 1450 ib. in Wisbech. That would seem to be the word flak or flack used of a turf (EDD s. v. flag ). Hence 'marsh where turves are cut,' v. mōr .
