Boleness Field is Bolnehyrst field 1438 Imb. Cf. Bollenherst 1310Ct , Bolnehyrst 1334 ib., Bolnehirst 1358 Imb, Bolney hirst drayne ib., Bolnest 1334Ct , t. Hy 8Rental , Boleness c. 1840TA . Cf. Bolnhurst (PN BedsHu 13). Both names should probably be interpreted as by Ekwall (DEPN) as from bulena hyrst , 'bulls' wooded hill.' For the development cf. Shrewsness supra 289.
