Etymology

Old Chair Drain (TA ) is “sewer called the Chayre in Upwell more” 1570 Imb, The Chare 1576 Saxton, Well Chaire 1669ChancDec . This would seem to be yet another example of the word chare applied to a winding watercourse, v. Chear Fen supra 149.
