Etymology

Harold Drove, Harold's Bank (both 6″). Cf. Goredyke al. Harroldedyke 1588Ct , Shoffendike al. Harroldike 1592Wisb , Harroldbank (e )1619SewersD , 1782Wisb and Harold's Bridge supra 274 which is on Elloe Bank. Harold Drove and Harold's Bank run east from this.Forms are late and it is clear there has been some transference of names. Goredyke is Goredike Bank in Newton supra 206 which runs at an angle from Elloe Bank near Harold's Bridge, v. also Shoffendike infra 286.
